Health & Safety Q&A with Anglo Glass

Anglo Glass is a family owned and operated company, serving Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in BC.

We recently connected with David Shaw, owner of Anglo Glass, to chat about his company, health and safety and their experience with ContractorCheck thus far. Read on for what he had to say!

ContractorCheck: Tell us about your business; what does your company do? How long have you been in business?

Anglo Glass: Our main focus is glass and door repair, replacement and new installations. We started Anglo Glass and doors and are in our second year of business. We felt there was something missing in the glass and door service industry, so far we have not been wrong!

CC: Why is health and safety important in your line of work?

AG: Because everybody should go home at the end of the day. We deal with very dangerous materials – glass is not very forgiving! We need everyone to be as safe as possible.

CC: Why was it important for your company to pursue a ContractorCheck accreditation, and what value does it hold for you?

AG: We want to be held to a higher standard, and have an independent 3rd party ensure we are practicing what we preach. We want our customers to know we are open and honest, and have everyone’s best interests in mind.

CC: What is something you know now that you wish you’d known when you started the business?

AG: Nothing can be taken for granted, and things will change faster than you want. This works for both good and bad situations.

CC: How has health and safety changed since your company was founded?

AG: It hasn’t changed dramatically, but we have already assessed some of our practices and implemented some minor changes the ensure we are as safe as possible.

CC: Is there a particular time of year that’s busiest for you? Why or why not?

AG: Spring/Summer – lots of projects are ongoing this time of year – the rest of the year seems to be more maintenance-focused jobs.

CC: Are there seasonal health and safety tips you can share with us for individuals or businesses to keep in mind this time of year (or if you have specific tips for warmer weather)?

AG: I would say sunscreen and water should be considered PPE for crews working outside.

CC: Are there any recent company accomplishments or announcements you’d like to share?

AG: We recently helped 3 employees gain certifications for our trade! Our employees had not been offered these certifications or the support to earn them at other companies they worked for. We’re proud to be able to support our employees!

Many thanks to the team at Anglo Glass for the continued commitment to health and safety! Check them out online for more info.
